Mary Wong • Catering Chef
Mary Wong graduated from University of Connecticut in 2003 for a Bachelor's in Photography and Minor in Art Education. She then decided to feed her curiosity in culinary arts and earned a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in 2008 with a degree in Culinary Arts and Business Management. While in school Mary received six gold medals and two silver metals for her culinary talents.
After graduating Mary worked with Nobu Mashiharo, one of New York's top rated Japanese Sushi Chefs. She then moved her work to the Hershey Hotel in Hershey, Pennsylvania. At the Hershey Hotel she worked within Banquets, The Fountain Café and the Circular Dining Room. She then came to New Street Catering as the Catering Sous Chef and has been promoted to Catering Chef.
She is always open to a challenge and new learning experiences. She believes in using simple ingredients to create phenomenal and creative dishes. Coming to New Street Catering gave her the drive and urge to become creative in her own way.
Beth Mottola • Pastry Chef
Beth’s impressive background started with her work at the original Zagara’s family store in New Jersey. From their she took her skills and knowledge and was able to apply them to a 5 year stay as Kitchen Manager and Catering Chef at the Lagoon Restaurant and Night Club. With her years of experience and studies in Business Management she came to the team at Aramark in West Chester, PA.
Beth has been working in West Chester for the past 10 years. Her background is not just limited to pastries, breads and the sweeter side of the kitchen.
Beth has prepared custom desserts and pastries for the President of West Chester University as well as the visiting President from Ghizou University in China. Her work speaks for itself and it is not uncommon for guests to ask, “How did she make this?”
2011 - Sweet Charity Event for the Chester County Community Foundation
For the 3rd straight year Beth has won at the Sweet Charity Event in Chester County. She won "Most Creative Dessert" for her Double Fudge Bacon Brownie with a Smoked Bacon Briitle, Mocha Cream and Chocolate Ganache.
2010 - Sweet Charity Event for the Chester County Foundation
She won the People's Choice Award at the 2010 Sweet Charity event for her Chocolate and Caramel Macadamia Nut Tart with Sea Salt.
2009 - Sweet Charity Event for the Chester County Community Foundation
Awarded the 2009 Most Creative Dessert in the Chester County Community Foundations for her Plum Tart with Goat Cheese & Walnut Thyme Streusel.
Katelyn Frate • Director of New Street Catering
Katelyn has called West Chester her home, not only as the Director of New Street Catering, but also as a student at West Chester University. During her four years of studies at the university, she held an internship in the WCU Alumni office, which provided her the knowledge of how to professionally communicate and advise a number of different types of clients, from Presidents of Universities to Alumni and Board of Directors. Katelyn joined the catering team as the Catering Coordinator in 2008 and has thrived in that position as to warrant advancement to a higher leveled position and more responsibility. In 2009 Katelyn became the Catering Operations Manager and has helped develop new standards and trainings for our staff, which has only aided in improving the overall operations of New Street Catering. By early 2010, Katelyn was promoted to Catering Sales Manager, where she excelled in customer relations and was an integral part of planning events for all our clients. Due to her tireless work ethic and innovative perspective she has continued to advance and in 2012 was named Director of New Street Catering.
Her energy and “can do” attitude is contagious and she prides herself in creating that individual WOW factor for each of our clients by staying up to date on current trends. Our clients rave about the service she provides and love to see her smiling face as she seamlessly executes their events.
Diane Miller • Catering Sales Manager
Diane has excelled in the hospitality and event industry even prior to graduating from La Salle University in 2006. As a student, she coordinated events as an intern with the Irish American Business Chamber of Commerce then found employment at The Hub City View Meeting and Event Facility in downtown Philadelphia. After receiving a degree in Marketing, Diane launched her career in Catering at the University of Pennsylvania. It was there that Diane refined her planning skills and expanded her knowledge of the catering industry through the coordination of large high profile campus events.
In 2009, Diane became the 'Sales Manager' for New Street Catering in West Chester. After a two year leave after the birth of her son, she has returned to this position in Spring of 2012. From the initial consultation to post event follow-up, Diane prides herself in delivering top notch customer service. She possesses a strong ability in capturing her clients' "vision" and strives to alleviate the stress associated with event planning. Strong communication skills coupled with attention to detail and creativity have made her one of the industry's finest!
Don Zajac • Catering Operations Manager
Don Zajac graduated from West Chester University in 2009 with my Bachelors of Science in Education.
Don Zajac’s hospitality career began 14 years ago at Llanerch Country Club. While at the club, Don learned all aspects of food and beverage operations, from a la carte dining, weddings, banquets, to bar operations. Looking to advance his career, Don moved on to Drexelbrook Catering and Corporate Events Center. As an Assistant Banquet Manager, the primary focus of his work was social occasions and weddings. Eager to learn all markets of the hospitality industry, Don then moved onto the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge where the primary clientele is corporate guests. Don remained at the Crowne Plaza as a banquet captain/supervisor for over 7 years overseeing many types of corporate events and maitre d’ high end weddings. Don has been in the hospitality industry for over 14 years and has now found a new home as the Catering Operations Manager with New Street Catering at West Chester University. With each event, Don uses his knowledge and expertise to execute a flawless and successful experience.
